PSA Marine opens its sustainable rooftop farm to the public
The Gericke rooftop hydroponics farm, with Orion Five's smart farming and AI harvest timing built in, was opened for public viewing as part of PSA Marine's sustainability programme.
Orion Five partnered the PSA Marine sustainability team for the open house and public feature of the Gericke rooftop farm. The smart farming features we designed integrate with the PSA Marine hydroponics installation, cutting water use while growing in a resource-efficient way, and the system advises the best harvest time from real-time environmental conditions.
The context PSA Marine set out for the project is the reason it exists: Singapore imports 90 percent of its food supply, and the national target is for 30 percent of nutritional needs to be produced locally by 2030. Rooftop hydroponics is one of the few ways to add growing area in a city with no spare land.
